Canada: New Castle and Johnston Districts - Census
(1848-1850) ====================================================================== This
data set contains information from the 1848 and 1850 head of household
censuses of Upper Canada. These censuses exist for only three of the twenty
districts that then comprised Upper Canada. These three distrits are Huron,
Johnstown, and Newcastle. This data set is an index to the returns of
Johnstown and Newcastle districts. Information listed in this index includes
the name of the head of household, the township, district, and/or province
in Canada under which the individual is found in the census, the page number
of the microfilm that he is found on, and the year of the census.

Ontario, Canada: Huron District - Census
(1848-1850) ====================================================================== Census
records are valuable sources for genealogists because they help us locate
people in a specific time and place. The census records indexed here are
located at the Family History Library (FHL) on microfilm rolls 851365-85167
and 1760221-1670224 for 1848 and 851366-851368 and 1760225-1760227 for 1850.
Copies of these records may also be found at the National Archives of
Canada, as well as many other genealogical societies, libraries, or
provincial archives. Use the information gathered from this index to locate
your ancestors on the microfilm rolls, which are copies of the original
census records. It is important to do this because original records often
contain more information than do their indexes. For instance,
information contained on the 1848 and 1850 censuses includes the name of
head of the household, lot and concession number of property, occupation or
trade, number of members in the household by sex and age category, and
number of births and deaths within the census year, among other items.
However, this index only lists the head of households' names and tells you
where you can find them in the original census records.

New York - Spanish American War Veterans
(1898) ====================================================================== This
data set is a name index to New York in the Spanish-American War 1898, Part
of the Report of the Adjutant-General of the State for 1900. This report
lists the volunteers enlisted in the various New York military organizations
during the Spanish-American War. In addition to the soldiers' names, this
record may also list things such as rank, when enrolled, when and where
mustered, death information, and other items relating to the regiments.
Information contained in this index includes name of volunteer, age (if
listed), state, page number on which he may be found in the original record
(citation provided below), regiment, and year.

Histories ====================================================================== This
database contains information on approximately 230,000 individuals who were
marrie between 1743 and 1891 in select Maine counties. Fully indexed, it is

a variety of sources including the Family History Library and the Maine
State Archives.

Genealogical Books - U.S. Military
Records ====================================================================== http://www.ancestralfindings.com/product1143_go.htm
From the earliest days of the United States, millions of Americans have
served their country in the military. Indeed, most families have seen one or
more members serve in America's armed forces. For this reason, genealogists
and others wisely look to military records for information needed to enhance
their research.
Enlistment forms, muster rolls, pension applications . . . records
created as a result of individuals' military service are extremely
valuable because they often contain detailed personal information about
their subjects - - date and place of birth, places of residence, names
and addresses of loved ones, and more. The researcher's dilemma is in
knowing what records are available and how to find them among the
overwhelming abundance of military records.
James Neagles' U.S. Military Records is the answer to this dilemma. U.S.
Military Records describes the records that are available and where they can
be found. Gathered in this volume is source information for the National
Archives and its adjuncts; historical institutions and archives of the armed
forces; the Department of Veterans Affairs (Veterans Administration); state
archives, libraries and historical organizations; and such patriotic
organizations as the Daughters of the American Revolution. Extensive
bibliographic listings of published sources for the United States in general
and published sources for each state are also included.
"U.S. Military Records provides mountains of detail essential to the
military researcher. In doing so, it fills a nearly complete void in
genealogical research literature; there is nothing like it elsewhere.
This book will appeal not only to genealogists but to anyone engaged in
military history research. Simply put, it is one of the best genealogical
research aids to come along in some time, and it will be regarded as one of
the most important works in the field." --Judith Reid, Library of Congress
