Ancestry of Walt Disney http://moneymaker.rootsweb.com/surnames/disney/surnames.htm -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Walt
Disney is best known for creating Mickey Mouse (for whom he was the original
voice) but did you know that his "Steamboat Willie" was the first fully
synchronized sound cartoon? Or that Disneyland marked a new type of amusement
park where entire families could have fun together? He is descended from
Reverend George Burroughs, accused warlock in 1692.

U.S. Military Discharge Documents http://www.FreeGenealogyLookups.com/freea8061.htm -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Recently
I've been working with military discharge papers from the United States
military from World War I, World War II, and from the mid-1960s. It has
always intrigued me how very much information is included in them and so this
week, I thought I'd discuss a little about each of these era's military
discharge documents.

Searching for Slave Records www.FreeGenealogyLookups.com/askr061799.htm -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q:
The 1860 Shelby County slave census shows Richardson BASS owning 4 slaves,
from the sex and ages this appears to be a family. Where can I find when and
where he acquired the slaves and when they became free? -- Pat

Problem Solving: An Example http://www.FreeGenealogyLookups.com/freea9989.htm -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks
to all who sent me additional problem solving strategies based upon last
week's column. The key, as several pointed out, is that methodical
and reasoned research is preferable to research that is unfocused and
unorganized. This week we look at an example in light of the framework
discussed last week...

Military History on the Web http://www.FreeGenealogyLookups.com/freea2417.htm -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The
Center of Military History has a great Web site full of information.
Some of the highlights are:

Binoculars at Cemeteries http://www.FreeGenealogyLookups.com/tip0865_go.htm -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When
I go trekking through cemeteries, I find it very useful to take along my
binoculars. I find a good vantage point, and then I am able to scan a lot of
grave markers from one spot. This has been especially effective with
tombstones from this century, and it has saved me miles of walking in
the hot sun.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ==>
International White Pages http://www.FreeGenealogyLookups.com/tip1199_go.htm -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As
an outside chance that really paid off for me, let me clue you in. When
searching for your ancestors in another country, if you know, or suspect, the
city or town in which they lived, look in the international white pages on
the Internet. I searched for a small town in Germany, and found 23
people with the surname I was researching. I wrote to four of them, and
got a response--Surprise! The man that I wrote to did not speak English, but
he brought the letter to a local historian, who responded to me with eight
added generations for my family (back to 1519) and a local map showing the
location of the family farm, from which the family emigrated in 1848. The
man I wrote to still lives on that farm. ..

Free Census Extraction Forms http://www.FreeGenealogyLookups.com/freecensusforms.htm ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Census
extraction forms are doubly valuable: not only do they allow researchers to
see the format and column headings for various census years (especially if
the schedules themselves are hard to read), they also provide a clean and
convenient method for extracting and filing important information you
find.
