Southern Genealogies #1, 1600s-1800s www.FreeGenealogyLookups.com/cd191.htm ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Among
the best known works on Southern genealogy ever published, Notable Southern
Families was begun in 1918 and completed in 1932. These six
volumes collect family histories that include thousands of individuals of
Cavalier, Scotch-Irish, and Huguenot heritage.
----------------------------------------------------------------------- =>
The Encyclopedia of Quaker Genealogy, 1740-1930 www.FreeGenealogyLookups.com/cd192.htm ----------------------------------------------------------------------- These
six volumes were compiled by William Wade Hinshaw from monthly meeting
records and are among the most important works on Quaker genealogy
ever published. According to the National Genealogical Society Quarterly,
these volumes represent "One of the indisputably great moments of
genealogical research in the twentieth century." (Volume XXXVIII, Number
2, June 1950).

Pennsylvania, 1740-1900 County and Family Histories www.FreeGenealogyLookups.com/cd193.htm ----------------------------------------------------------------------- This
database is unique because it provides not only family histories but county
histories as well. You can learn, for example, not only that your
ancestor was married in Butler County in 1800 but what Butler County was
like in 1800. With this information you are able to gain a more complete
understanding of your ancestors and the times and locations in which they
lived.
----------------------------------------------------------------------- ==>
Massachusetts & Maine Family Histories, 1650s-1930 www.FreeGenealogyLookups.com/cd194.htm ----------------------------------------------------------------------- This
database contains pages from Cape Cod Library of Local History and Genealogy
and Massachusetts and Maine Families. Originally published by
the Genealogical Publishing Company, these volumes contain information
about approximately 77,000 individuals. Since relatively few Cape Cod records
have survived, the 108 histories and essays collected in Cape Cod Library
of Local History and Genealogy are valuable resources. They can provide a
better understanding of the period in which your ancestors lived.
Massachusetts and Maine Families documents the complete ancestry of Walter
Goodwin Davis. Almost anyone with considerable New England ancestry will
descend from one or more of the 180 families included in this
database.
----------------------------------------------------------------------- ==>
Maryland Marriages and Genealogies, 1634-1820 www.FreeGenealogyLookups.com/cd195.htm ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Here
you'll find six volumes of comprehensive Maryland family histories and
marriages. Three of the volumes contain detailed family histories,
some gleaned from the Maryland Historical Magazine, while the rest contain
listings of Maryland marriages.

Source Priority www.FreeGenealogyLookups.com/rhonda031303.htm -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Each
week I look through the many e-mail messages for the "Ask Rhonda" column and
come across a particular question that seems so important that it deserves
extra attention. This week, the question of source priority is just such a
question. A reader sent in a question asking what to do when
sources contradict each other. He wanted to know if there was a rule for
applying more weight to one source than another and wondered how to
prioritize his sources. As I sat there reading his message, the wheels began
to turn and I began to ponder this question. The easy answer is that yes
there are some sources that are better than others, but then I go to thinking
about why that is...

Seeking Common Threads www.FreeGenealogyLookups.com/freea9901.htm -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Searching
for an ancestor with a common surname is a problem most of us will encounter
at one time or another through the course of our research. The problem is
inherent in that common surnames are just that--common. When I first
started researching, I tended to focus on the easier families with surnames
that were a little more unusual. With these cases, an ancestor is typically
easier to identify, even when you're searching in a large
city.
However, when confronted with hundreds of entries sharing
your...

Setting Your Goals for a Genealogy Trip www.FreeGenealogyLookups.com/freea9896.htm -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This
year has been a very busy one for me so far, and one of the major,
time-consuming projects has been preparing to lead a tour for the Iowa
Genealogical Society to London. I head to Des Moines of 30 April to meet up
with the group and we depart on 1 May for Chicago's O'Hare
International Airport and fly to London's Heathrow Airport.
The
preparation for this trip has required working with a...

Luck in the Library www.FreeGenealogyLookups.com/tip9897_go.htm -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To
follow up on Marilynn Boosingers Quick Tip (“Go Beyond Vitals in
Newspapers”), sometimes you get really lucky and the local library/repository
has an effort underway to index microfilmed newspapers.
I lucked out a
couple years ago when I stumbled over an index for roughly the years
1880-1935, Middletown Press at the Russell Library in Middletown, Conn., one
of...
