County Histories

What is a County History?
It is just that, the history of a county. In this case I am talking about U.S. county histories. It might be a county history compiled in the 19th
century, especially from 1870-1900. 1876 was the centennial of the U.S. and a major impetus toward recording history. Another strong period was the
bicentennial in 1976. Most cover a single county, but some encompass two or three counties. Town histories exist for New England.
